When you reinstall the Windows XP operating system on a computer, all of your files and settings are deleted. By exporting your Outlook Express account settings before beginning the reinstallation process, you can speed up the process of Outlook Express. As long as you have saved your Outlook Express account settings to a flash drive or external hard drive, you can restore them and start using Outlook Express again quickly.

Instructions

    Connect your flash drive or external hard drive to your computer.

    Launch the Outlook Express application.

  3. 3

    Open the "Tools" menu at the top of the window and select "Accounts."

    Go to the "Mail" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

    Click on the "Import" button on the right side of the window.

    Navigate to the location on your flash drive or external hard drive where you saved the Outlook Express account settings file. The file will have a .iaf extension, which stands for Internet Account File.

    Highlight the .iaf file and click "Open." Outlook Express will now restore your e-mail accounts and settings.
