The basic Yahoo! Mail account is free. Yahoo is able to provide this service for free because it displays advertisements within the Yahoo! Mail interface. If you want to remove Yahoo! Mail advertisements, you'll need to upgrade to Yahoo!'s Mail Plus package. This package, £12.90 per year as of 2010, removes the advertisements from your e-mail account. You can also temporarily hide ads; however, you'd need to hide them each time you sign in to your Yahoo! Mail account.
