How do I Decorate With Trim, Tassels, & Fringe?
Add a little or a lot to give a room a new look. (orange brush image by Marek Kosmal from Fotolia.com)

Make ordinary objects interesting by embellishing them with trim, fringe or tassels. Combine all three to create a bedroom or living room look that gives the appearance of high-end accessories. Set aside a few hours to make over a room that reflects your style and stays within a limited budget.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the circumference of the bottom of the lampshade. Use a cloth tape measure for an accurate measurement and add 1 inch to account for the overlapping of fringe.

  2. 2

Choose fringe that complements the wall colour, pillows, curtains or bedspread. Fringe can also have beads attached and comes in varying lengths.

  3. 3

Spread a line of glue a quarter of the way around the bottom of the lampshade, starting at the lamp seam. Press the fringe onto the glue and secure with clip clothespins. Continue adding the glue and the fringe a section at a time.

  4. 4

Overlap the last inch of fringe and secure with a clip. Remove the clips when the glue has dried and replace the lampshade.

  1. 1

Purchase an inexpensive wood picture frame from a discount department store. Measure the perimeter of the frame and add 4 inches to the total. Use the total number of inches to purchase the length of trim.

  2. 2

Measure the width of the frame. Select trim in the width and length to cover the frame.

  3. 3

Cut the trim to fit each side of the frame. Cut each end at a diagonal so the ends will not overlap when attached to the frame.

  4. 4

Apply white glue to one side of the wood frame and spread evenly to cover the frame. Use your fingers or a Popsicle stick to spread the glue.

  5. 5

Attach the trim to the remaining sides. Turn the frame upside-down and place a heavy book on the frame for one hour. Add a picture to the frame and enjoy.

  1. 1

Slip the loop end of the tassel onto a curtain pullback. Arrange the tassel to drape from the lowest end of the pullback. Pick a colour to match the curtain or other room accessories.

  2. 2

Add small tassels to the four corners of a pillow. Use matching thread and make several passes through the corner of the pillow and the tassel.

  3. 3

Dress up the pulls on an armoire or dresser by simply attaching the loop end of the tassels and letting them hang.
