How to search internet history on your computer's hard drive
When your browser is set to "private browsing" no items will appear in the Temporary Internet Files. (history image by Ewe Degiampietro from Fotolia.com)

If you are attempting to locate a website that was previously visited on your computer, but can't find the link or remember the address, you may be able to locate the website from your Temporary Internet Files folder. All Internet history is stored on your computer's hard drive in the Temporary Internet Files folder. The length of time and how much data is stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder can be set to a custom size and time frame, allowing you to keep records of as much or as little Internet history as you wish.
