The Canon Pixma MX850 printer is a printer with networking capabilities. When you have a device that has network capabilities, it must have an IP address in order for it to connect to other devices over the network. At times, you may need to change the IP address on the Canon Pixma MX850 printer. In order to change the IP address, you need to use the included software for the printer.

- USB cable
- Installation CD
- Ethernet cable
Insert the installation CD into the computer's disk drive. An installation program will start up.
Click on "Easy Install." Click on "Install" in the bottom right corner of the next screen that comes up.
Click "Yes" on the user agreement, select "set up the printer and the computer for network use" and click "Next."
Connect the USB cable from the printer to an open USB port on the computer.
Click "Next," connect a Ethernet cable between the printer and the router you are using for your network and click "Yes."
Click on "Use next IP address" and enter the new IP address you want to use into the boxes next to "IP Address."
Enter the subnet mask and default gateway, and click "Connect."
