FlashGet is a download accelerating application that helps you manage the files you download. Like other traditional download accelerators, it works by focusing all its bandwidth energy only on a single file being downloaded. However, it uses an additional approach as well. It splits the file you want to download into 10 parts, which are all downloaded simultaneously. If you still find its download speed to be too slow, you can try a small trick that may enhance the speed considerably.
- Skill level:
Make sure you have the latest version of FlashGet installed on your computer. You can download and install it for free from FlashGet’s website (see Resources). The latest version has new features that ensure maximum download speed.
Download a FlashGet add-on. A small file with a .reg extension is available on a number of websites. This add-on lets you increase the number of split parts from 10 to 30. As a result, all 30 parts will download simultaneously and the download will be much faster. You can download this file from Softpedia, Downv or Bloganything (see References). When you open any of these websites, just click the “Download” button.
Click “Open” on the “File Download” dialogue box.
Click “Run” when the file finishes downloading.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
Restart your computer. Now when you download a file using FlashGet, the number of split-parts will be 30 instead of 8 or 10 (the default numbers).
