Olive oil has many uses in natural skin care, hair care and healthy living. It is good for the body eaten on salads and bread, makes a moisturising skin treatment and repairs damaged hair. Olive oil is made from pressed olives and comes in many grades such as refined and extra virgin. This refers to how the oil is processed. Extra virgin olive oil is the purest because it is made with no chemical processes or filtering. This is considered the best type of oil for cooking but any type of olive oil will work for hair and skin care products.

Instructions

  1. 1

Make a moisturising hair treatment with 90 ml (5 tbsp) of olive oil and two eggs. Mix well and apply to hair and scalp. Lightly massage for approximately five minutes and cover with a plastic cap. Leave in for 15 to 20 minutes.

  2. 2

Mix 55 ml (3 tbsp) of olive oil with 36 ml (2 tbsp) of honey for a soothing hair mask. Honey is a natural moisturiser and softens skin and hair. Mix and apply to hair and scalp. Wrap in a plastic cap and cover for 30 minutes. Wash and style as usual.

  3. 3

Give your hair a weekly hot oil treatment of 36 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil and 55 ml (3 tbsp) coconut oil. Heat oils in double boiler just to warm but not hot. Massage into hair and scalp and cover with a plastic cap. Wrap a towel around the cap and leave in 30 minutes. This makes the hair soft and shiny and reduces frizz.

  4. 4

Apply a deep conditioner once a month to make hair shine. Combine 15 ml olive oil, 60 ml apple cider vinegar, 60 ml aloe vera gel and 30 ml powdered milk. Massage into damp hair and cover with plastic cap. Wrap a hot towel over the cap and leave in for 30 minutes.
