Each model of Motorola cable box is assigned a model number, used to identify the cable box. Knowing your model number is important for troubleshooting and compatibility purposes. Additionally, if you rent a cable box from your cable provider, the model number should be verified against the model number listed on your bill to ensure that its records are correct and that you are being billed the correct amount for the cable box rental.

Instructions

  1. 1

Look at the front of the cable box. The model number will often be printed on the front of the cable box in an inconspicuous location, such as on the bottom or top corners. Often, the model number will consist of capital letters followed by numbers, such as “DCH3200” or “DCX3400.”

  2. 2

Locate the serial number sticker on the cable box. Often, the serial number will be contained on a white sticker, which may also include a bar code and the model number. Depending on the model of the cable box, the sticker may be placed on the rear, sides or bottom of the unit.

  3. 3

Look at the user manual included with the cable box. The model number will often be used in the title on the cover of the user manual. For example, “Motorola DCX3200 User Guide.”
