Updates to the BIOS (basic input output system) in your Asus "Eee PC 1000H" is akin to updating the Microsoft Windows operating system. When you update a software or hardware component, it is usually for performance and security concerns. For the BIOS, updates are usually for performance so that the computer can maintain compatibility with new technology. The BIOS is an integral part of your overall Eee PC's operation, and Asus makes the process of updating it very accommodating to users.
Type in the Web address to Asus' "Support" website into the address bar in the Internet browser and press "Enter" (see Resources for link).
Move the cursor to the "General Download" section, then click the down arrow next to "Select Product." Choose "Eee Family" from the menu.
Click the down arrow next to "Select Series." Choose "Eee PC" from the menu.
Click the down arrow next to "Select Models." Choose your model from the menu. For example, choose the "Eee PC 1000H/XP" model.
Click the "Search" button at the bottom of the "General Download" section, then select your operating system in the pop-up box. Click the "Search" button in the box, then wait for a list of updates to show up. For example, choose "WinXP" (Windows XP).
Click the plus sign next to "BIOS," which will expand that category to show specific updates.
Read about each BIOS update and make a decision on which is necessary for your PC.
Click on the "Global (DLM)" link. Type in the numbers and letters from the security image, then click on the "Submit" button.
Read and follow the instructions that will guide you as to how to download and install the BIOS update. A message will appear on the display screen stating when the BIOS update to the Eee PC 1000H is complete.
