With the aid of a digital optical audio cable, it is possible to send the surround sound signal from the cable box (or television) directly to the Sony digital surround sound system, without losing any audio quality with the hookup.

- 2 digital optical audio cables
Connect the first digital audio optical cable into the "Digital Audio Out" port on the television.
Plug the opposite end of the cable into one of the "Digital Audio In" ports on the Sony digital audio surround sound system.
Insert the second digital optical audio cable into the "Digital Audio Out" port on the cable receiver, then connect the free end of the cable into another "Digital Audio In" port on the Sony receiver.
Power on the Sony receiver and the device you want to hear the audio from. Select the digital audio input you have the TV/cable receiver box connected to and the audio from the hooked-up equipment begins to play.
