How to Connect an HP Laserjet 6P With a USB

The Laserjet 6P is a line of computer printers made by Hewlett Packard, which has since discontinued the series. HP 6P printers use a parallel-port connection with 36 holes set in two rows that align with a parallel cable. Connecting the printer with a USB connection, found on most newer computers and laptops, requires an adaptor cable and software installed on the computer. The necessary software is loaded on a CD that comes with the adaptor cable.

Instructions

    Open the computer's drive tray and insert the software CD, then shut the tray. Wait a moment for the CD to begin automatic playback.

    Insert the USB plug on one end of the adaptor cable into any USB port on the computer. The three-pronged arrow moulded on one side of the plug should face upward.

    Click the on-screen buttons on the computer monitor to install the software.

  4. 4

    Connect the parallel plug to the matching port on the rear of the Laserjet 6P when prompted by the software installation screen.

  5. 5

    Finish the installation by clicking the buttons when prompted, then restart the PC.
