The Logitech Scanman was a hand-held scanner designed for Windows 95 and some earlier operating systems. Logitech no longer supports these scanner models and will not provide drivers. If you don't have the original driver disk available and an older operating system, you may not be able to get these scanners to work. By installing the hardware and software on an old computer, you can use the various models of Scanman to create interesting scan effects.
Plug the Scanman into the 9-pin serial port on your computer. The 9-pin port is the one shaped like a D that has 9 holes. Tighten the thumbscrews on the Scanman connector.
Place the driver floppy disk in your computer's disk drive. If using third-party drivers on a modern operating system, follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
Browse to your floppy drive using Windows Explorer by right clicking on the Start button and selecting Explore. The floppy drive will usually be drive A.
Double-click on the file Setup.exe. Some operating systems may not display the .exe extension. On those systems, double-click Setup. This will launch the driver set-up program.
Follow the installation instructions.
Start the Scanman scanner interface by opening it through an image editor's TWAIN interface. In older versions of Photoshop, the TWAIN interface was under the File menu of Photoshop.
Set the contrast switch on the left side of the scanner in a middle position. Adjust as necessary.
Set the lamp brightness with the rotary control next to the contrast switch. Set it at a middle level and adjust as necessary.
Place the scanner on the document or object to be scanned and press the button on the side of the scanner. Drag the scanner over the document at an even speed. Make sure all of the rollers are in contact with a surface.
Release the button and finalise the scan in the TWAIN interface. The exact steps will vary greatly, depending on the version of Scanman and TWAIN interface version. However, at minimum you will need to click "Import" or "Okay" to import the scanned image to your image-processing software.
If you either don't have the driver disk or would like to use this scanner with a more modern operating system, you may be able to buy a third-party driver. These drivers may or may not be reliable, but might allow an old Scanman to work with a modern computer.
