Yahoo! Mail is a free Internet based e-mail service from Yahoo! One of Yahoo! Mail's features is that its e-mail accounts are post office protocol (POP3) enabled. This allows you to set up and access your Yahoo! Mail account with a e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook, an e-mail client that is part of the Microsoft Office suite. Microsoft Outlook is fully compatible with Yahoo! Mail, and once you have set up your Yahoo Mail account with Microsoft Outlook you can send and receive your Yahoo! Mail e-mails from the Outlook application.

Open the Microsoft Outlook program. Click "Tools" from the Outlook window's toolbar. Select "Account Settings" and then click the "Email" tab. Select "New." Check the box next to "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" and click "Next."
Type your name in the "Your Name" text box and type your full Yahoo! Mail e-mail address in the "Email Address" text box. Check the box marked "Manually configure server settings or additional server types," and click "Next." Check the box marked "Internet e-mail" and click "Next."
Select "POP 3" from the "Account Type" drop-down menu. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the "Incoming mail Server" text box and type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP) text box. Type your Yahoo ID in the "User Name" text box. Your user name is your Yahoo Mail e-mail address without the @yahoo.com. Type your full case-sensitive password in the "Password" text box. Check the box next to "Remember Password."
Select "More Settings" and then select the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Click "Advanced." Check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under the "Incoming Server (POP3)" subsection. The port number should change automatically to 995. If the port number is not set to 995, manually change it by typing in "995." Check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" subsection. Type "465" in the text box corresponding to the "Outgoing Server (SMTP) field. Click "OK."
Click "Next" and then click "Finished." Click the "Close" button. Your Yahoo! Mail e-mail is now set-up to use with your Microsoft Outlook e-mail client.
Click "Get Mail" to download any available e-mail messages to Outlook from your Yahoo! Mail account.
