How to Restore a Toshiba to Factory

Updated February 21, 2017

It is common to restore a computer back to its factory settings after a virus or other malware has invaded the system and caused it to stop functioning properly. Many manufacturers include a system restore disk or provide instructions to create a recovery disk to help the customer restore the system. Users may also restore a Toshiba without a restore disk. Restoring a Toshiba laptop back to its original factory settings will erase all data currently on the computer.

Power off the Toshiba computer.

Hit the "Power" button to turn the device back on. Simultaneously, hit the "0" key. Hold both buttons until the computer begins to beep. This will initiate the request to restore the system.

Click "Yes" when prompted by the Toshiba to restore the system.

Click on the "Recovery of Factory Default Software" option and click the "Next" button.

Click on the "Recover to the out-of-box state" option and click "Next" to start system recovery.

If you have a recovery disk, you may insert it into the computer. Then just follow the restore prompts.
