The loud beep that you hear whenever you plug your IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad in or out of an electrical socket can be an annoyance. Muting the speakers may put a bandage on the problem, but it isn't a long-term solution. Fortunately, there is a way to end the shrill sound for good by accessing the power options on your T60 or any other Thinkpad.

Click the "Start" button (or "Windows" logo in Vista) on your desktop, then click "Control Panel."
Select "Classic View" if not already displayed, and click "Power Options."
Double-click "Power Manager" on the left, then select the "Global Power Settings" tab.
Click the box next to "Beep when power state changes" to uncheck it, then hit "OK." Your Thinkpad will no longer emit a loud beep when you plug it in or out.
