How to Connect a Laptop to a Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U TV

Updated February 21, 2017

The Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U TV is a plasma high-definition TV (HDTV) with a 50-inch screen, measured diagonally. The set offers multiple ports for hooking up audio-video components, including a VGA (video graphics array) port for a direct connection to a laptop computer. The VGA port available on many laptops is typically used to connect an external monitor. Because the Panasonic plasma HDTV also has VGA, there is no need for an adaptor cable, which is necessary for most other TVs to computer connections.

Shut down the laptop and turn off the Panasonic HDTV.

Connect one end of the VGA cable to the PC Input port at the bottom centre of the connection panel on the back of the Panasonic HDTV. Turn the wider side of the plug up to slide onto the VGA port, then tighten the two knobs on the plug sides to keep the cable from falling off the TV.

Hook up the plug on the other end to the matching video port along the back or left edge of the laptop.

Turn on the laptop and HDTV, then press and hold the Function ("Fn") key. Press the key labelled "LCD/CRT" or featuring a screen icon to switch video output from the laptop screen to the Panasonic.

Press and release the Panasonic HDTV's remote control "Input" button until "PC" flashes on the screen and the signal from the laptop appears.
