The HP Photosmart C6280 will display an alert either on the printer's screen or on the computer's screen when it experiences an ink system failure. When the ink system fails, you will not be able to perform any print functions using the device, meaning any print jobs that were being processed by the printer will be put on hold until you resolve the problem. If after completing the steps to correct the situation and the printer still will not print, seek help from your local printer repair shop.

  1. 1

Press the "Power" button on the C6280's control panel to turn off the printer. Once the display screen is no longer illuminated, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

  2. 2

Plug the power cord back into the printer after 10 seconds or more time. Press the "Power" button to turn the printer back on.

  3. 3

Check the printer's display screen once it has finished its initialisation procedures. Replace any ink cartridges the display indicates need to be replaced by lifting up on the centre portion of the printer's top panel until it locks into position.

  4. 4

Wait for the cartridge carriage to stop moving and fall silent. Press the tab below the cartridge you need to replace, then lift upward to swing the cartridge's strap out of the way.

  5. 5

Grab the cartridge and pull it toward you to remove it from the printer. Insert the new cartridge in the same orientation as the old cartridge, then swing the securing strap down until the tab clicks. Close the printer's top cover and wait for the printer to fall silent before trying to print again.
