How to make epoxy wood filler
Adding colloidal silica makes epoxy ideal for moulding repairs and other detail work. (moulding image by Jim Mills from

While it is impossible to make the actual epoxy resin at home due to a difficult manufacturing process and hard-to-get materials, it is possible to mix additives into epoxy resin to create a specialised epoxy to match any given repair need. To make epoxy wood filler suited for shaping and contouring, add colloidal silica to two-part epoxy. Alternatively, you can add sawdust to epoxy to make a wood filler that closely matches a wood's texture.

Use this mixture as a filler for holes and other crack repairs. This filler also works well for wood rot repairs. The sawdust in the epoxy gives the patch a similar texture to the original material, creating a more seamless appearance.
