Parents may worry about their children having access to a webcam on the Internet. You can turn the webcam off so no application can use it. Disabling a HP laptop's webcam is a quick process.You can always enable the webcam again if you need to use it in the future.

    Go to your computer's Device Manager. Access the Device Manager from the computer's Control Panel located in the Start menu. Once in the Control Panel, click "Device Manager." Device manager opens showing you all the device categories loaded to your computer.

    Click on the category labelled "Imaging Devices" and click on your webcam's name.

    Click the "Driver" tab on the popup window. Then click "Disable" and "OK." Windows will prompt you for conformation. Click "Yes." The button will change to "Enable." Use this if you need to turn the webcam back on.
