Text messages have become a common method of communication both domestically and abroad. Since their inception in 1992 text messaging, also called SMS messaging, has become the largest global use of cellular data with over one quarter of worldwide cell phone users sending at least one text message a day, according to the Times of India. Sending text messages internationally is as easy as sending them domestically and can be a useful and cheap communication tool for sending short messages abroad.

Compose the message you want to send using your phone's SMS or text message editor. In most instances this requires selecting "New Message" under the "Messaging" menu of your phone.
