How to Sync Your BlackBerry to Your Laptop

BlackBerry devices can be synchronised with your laptop with the use of Desktop Manager. Desktop Manager is an application that is produced by Research in Motion Ltd., the makers of BlackBerry, to enable users to sync everything from e-mails to media. Users also can back up and restore their devices with Desktop Manager. With just a few clicks, you can set up your device to sync with your laptop. You can even set up your device to sync automatically with your laptop every time you connect it.

Instructions

    Download and install Desktop Manager with Media Manager. You can download Desktop Manager from the disc you received with your BlackBerry or from the BlackBerry website (see Resources). Follow the prompts during the installation wizard to properly install the application on your laptop.

    Connect your BlackBerry to your laptop. Using the USB cable you received with your BlackBerry, connect it to an open USB port. If your device is properly connected, the PIN number will appear next to "Device Connected" in the lower left-hand corner of the Desktop Manager screen.

    Select "Synchronize" in the Desktop Manager's main menu screen. The synchronisation options menu should open.

    Select "Synchronization" under "Configure" in the left panel.

    Configure your settings. Click "Synchronization" in the right panel to configure the settings for the applications you want to sync. Follow instructions on the installation wizard for each application.

    Select the sync actions you want to perform, then click the "Synchronize" button.

    Open Desktop Manager on your laptop and connect your BlackBerry with a USB cable.

    Select "Media" in the Desktop Manager's main menu. Media Manager enables you to sync your media files, including pictures and songs.

    Click "Launch" under "Media Manager." Accept the user agreement if this is your first time using the application.

    Scan for media. Media Manager automatically prompts for permission to scan your laptop for media files. Select "Yes," then select the folders to scan and select "okay." Select the media you want to sync. For Pictures, click on the folder in the right panel.

    Select "Split View" to move media from your laptop to your BlackBerry. Locate the media you want to move and drag it to the BlackBerry panel. You also can drag items from the BlackBerry panel to the appropriate folder.
