The touch pad on a Sony Vaio laptop is an alternative to a mouse. It includes all the regular functions of a mouse. The touch pad relies on finger movement and downward pressure to function and allow you to select cursor points and select and click applications and components.     Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "VAIO Support Central" option. Select "System Maintenance" to launch the Vaio Central Utility. The Vaio Support Central window opens.

    Click "Vaio Central" to access the system settings and click the "System Information" tab. Click the plus symbol (+) next to "Keyboard and Mouse" to expand the folder. Double-click the "Built-in pointing devices" icon.

    Clear the "Enable" check-box. Click "OK" and click "Yes" to disable the touch pad. Click the "X" to close the VAIO Central window. Click the "X" to close the VAIO Support Central window.
