How to Delete the URL History From My Google Search Bar
Google search history is easy to erase. (pencil eraser image by Richard Seeney from Fotolia.com)

The Google Toolbar, an optional plug-in for various Web browsers, saves your Web history in order to make suggestions when you enter text into the search field. Some browsers also contain built-in search bars that can be configured to use Google Search and that also save visit and query history. It's easy to clear history for both kinds of search bars.

Instructions

  1. 1

Clear your Google Toolbar history by clicking the drop-down arrow on the search box and clicking "Clear History" at the bottom of the window.

  2. 2

Set Google Toolbar to stop recording history by clicking the wrench icon on the Toolbar, selecting the "Search" tab, unchecking the "Store search history on my computer" option and clicking "Save."

  3. 3

Clear the history of your built-in browser search bar by clearing your browser's history in general. In Firefox, click "Clear Recent History" under the "Tools" menu; in Internet Explorer, click "Delete Browsing History" under the same menu. If your browser presents you with a list of types of history to clear, make sure to clear some form of "Form" or "Search" history as well as "Browsing" history.
