The Logitech Z-5500 surround-sound speaker system is designed for a PC computer and provided digital surround sound audio. Although the equipment comes with a 3.5mm audio line connection cable (designed for the built-in line-in connections on your computer), you may have an upgraded audio card that supports optical cable inputs. If this is the case, you need to convert the 3.5mm audio cable into a optical connection cable.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • Logitech Z-5500 surround sound speakers
  • 3.5mm to optical digital cable adaptor
  • Computer

  1. 1

Connect the 3.5mm cable running out of the Logitech Z-5500's subwoofer into the 3.5mm end of the 3.5mm-to-optical digital cable adaptor.

  2. 2

Plug the optical digital cable end of the adaptor into the "Optical Cable In" port on the upgraded sound card.

  3. 3

Power on the computer and press the "Power" button on the Logitech Z-5500's control panel.

  4. 4

Click "Start"-->"Control Panel"-->"Sound" and select the output options. Change this to "Surround Sound" speakers and click "Apply" to approve the changes. You are now set to begin using your connected Logitech Z-5500 digital surround sound system.
