How to Make Wallpaper Paste at Home

Updated April 17, 2017

Some do-it-yourselfers have found that store-bought wallpaper paste has an offensive odour that may linger in the home long after it is applied. Others question the toxicity level of the paste. So some people may opt to save money and make their own paste at home, free of pesticides. Making your own paste may seem daunting, but the results may be worth it. Prepare your wallpaper paste at home, and then you will be ready to start your project.

Put 6 tbsp of flour in a bowl and slowly add 1/2 cup of water until it forms a running mixture.

Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan.

Add the flour mixture to the boiling water. Stir well.

Continue stirring as the mixture foams up as it boils. Stirring will prevent it from boiling over.

Boil it for two minutes.

Remove it from the heat.

Add 8 tbsp of sugar or more.

Let it cool. It will keep well for a week.

Things You'll Need
