DJ speakers hook up to an amplifier for power at a live gig. An efficient way to adjust the sound from various stereo signals and pump it through the amplifier is to connect the amp and speakers to a mixer. The set-up uses standard 1/4-inch stereo audio cables to hook up the mixer to the amp, which is connected to the DJ speakers using speaker wire. The mixer can be used with instruments and stereo components, such as turntables and CD players, to provide sound for the DJ speakers.

Things you need
- Stereo cables
- Speaker wire
- Wire strippers
Insert the two plugs on one end of the stereo cable into the pair of left and right "Master Out" jacks on the mixing board, either along the top control panel or the back edge.
Connect the plugs on the other end to the amplifier's stereo input jacks. Match the cable from the left mixer output to the amplifier's left input. The cable from the right output on the mixer connects to the right input on the amp.
Cut speaker wires to connect between the amp and each speaker or use dedicated cables that come with some brands of DJ speakers. For cut wire, use at least 18-gauge (thickness) wire for distances up to 10 feet between the speaker and amp. A 16-gauge wire can handle distances up to 20 feet between speaker and amp with no signal loss.
Strip a half inch of insulation from the two wires on each end. Connect the wires to the positive and negative terminals on the amp and each speaker. Use the left terminals on the amp to connect with the speaker positioned on the left side of the staging area where the DJ will work and connect the right speaker to the right audio terminals on the amp. The wire used for the positive connection on the amp should be hooked up to the positive terminal on the speaker.
