There are many methods for hanging pictures or wall hangings. If you have several pictures to hang or only one, a picture rail provides a creative alternative to the more common methods. Picture railing can be wood wall moulding in which the grooves are used to hang pictures with hooks and cord. The moulding can also be used as a type of shelf to rest your pictures upon. You might place it high on your wall or lower according to your personal decorating needs.

Things you need
- Laser level or measuring tape or yard stick
- Picture rail
- Finishing nails
Make marks on your wall indicating the position for the picture rail. You may use a laser level for this. If you have a straight ceiling you can make your measurements with a tape measure or yard stick by measuring down from the ceiling and marking points for the left side and right side of the picture rail.
Depending upon the length of your moulding, you may need a second person to help you install the rail. Align the rail with the marks.
Holding the rail steady, secure with finishing nails in a hidden area of the moulding.
