The firmware on your TomTom navigation device includes necessary applications, maps, voices and other general functions of the GPS. Upgrading the V3 firmware on your TomTom will give you access to new features of the device. The TomTom One is the base model for vehicle navigation. If you want more functionality out of your TomTom One, make sure to update the firmware.

    Visit the TomTom Home website and download TomTom Home on your computer. TomTom Home is a free download. Save and run the file on your computer through the set-up wizard.

    Connect the TomTom One to your computer via USB cable. TomTom Home will automatically open and check for available updates. If it does not automatically run, click on “Update my device” in the TomTom Home program.

    Create an account when prompted in the TomTom Home program. The program will take you through the proper steps to create an account. Make sure to include all pertinent information to receive updates.

    Click next to see the available updates after creating an account. The updates will show up in a list. Choose to “Update and Install” all of the updates. Install any application updates that are available as well. This will update your TomTom firmware.

    Click on “Done” when TomTom Home is finished downloading updates to your device.

    Properly remove the TomTom one from your computer. Navigate to the “Eject” button located in the lower-right corner of the TomTom Home program. Click on “Eject” and TomTom Home will notify you that it is safe to remove your device.

    Remove the USB cable from the computer and the TomTom device.
