A gun case is crucial for someone who needs to store a gun. Since guns should be out of reach for minors and children, making a gun case at home should be considered if the funds are not available to purchase one. A homemade wooden gun case is simple to make, if all of the necessary supplies are readily available. All of the supplies can be purchased at any local hardware store.

Things you need
- Lock – combination or key lock
- Lock hinges
- Hinges for the door
- Tape measure
- 3/4 inch plywood sheets / pieces
Decide how large the gun case needs to be. This is determined by the size of gun and supplies that needs to be locked inside. Write down the measurements for the length, the height and the depth of the case.
Use these measurements to sketch and cut out the pieces for the case on the ¾ inch thick plywood. The side pieces should be the height and the depth, while the front and back of the case should be the height and the length, plus an additional 1 ½ inch on both pieces. Use sandpaper to smooth the edges after cutting.
Attach one of the side pieces to the front of the case by lining up the identical cut sides. Attached the side on the inside of the front pieces, as it is 1 ½ inch longer to suit the ¾ thick plywood. Use a hammer and nails to connect the two. Do the same for the other side piece. Line the back piece up and nail it securely to the side pieces.
Measure the perimeter of the box that has just been created. Do this while it is leaning on all four pieces for a correct measurement. Draw and cut out two pieces of plywood with these measurements for the bottom and door of the case.
Line one of the plywood pieces up with the borders of the case. Use nails and a hammer to secure the bottom piece. Flip the gun case right side up.
Place the second piece of plywood on top of the case. Mark with a pencil where the hinges will be attached. They should be evenly spread apart to support the case door. Remove the plywood piece from the case and attach 2 hinges where the markings are with a screwdriver and screws. Keep in mind that the hinges will be on the inside of the case, so line the hinges up with the border of the piece.
Lay the case on its side to install the door with the hinges. Line the door with the hinges up with the side of the case. Attach the hinges to the inside of the case using the screwdriver and screws.
Flip the gun case right side up. Install the outside lock hinges by lining them up to the door and the side piece. Depending on the type of lock, the hinges may require different installation. Install the hinges on the part of the case where the door opens first with a screwdriver and screw. Ensure the hinges and lock is secure. If more locks are required for safety, install more hinges and purchase more locks.
Open the door of the gun case and measure the inside of the case. Write down the measurements for the sides, the bottom and the top of the lid. Cut out foam pieces using these measurements
Apply wood glue to the backside of the foam and place them in the box in the appropriate places. Apply pressure to the foam until the glue has dried. When all of the pieces have dried, the gun case is ready for use.
