A plastic hanging shoe organiser will keep footwear off the closet floor and in clear view. Clear plastic fabric and sturdy wool felt are sold by the yard at fabric stores. This task is best accomplished with the use of a sewing machine, which will stitch up the completed organiser in no time. The shoe holder would make a thoughtful handmade birthday or holiday gift for a relative or friend who likes to keep an organised closet.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 1/2 yard heavy wool felt
- 1 yard clear plastic sheeting
- Tape measure
- Straight pins
- Felt-tipped marker
- Craft knife
- Wooden hanger
- 1 yard 1-inch-wide elastic

Cut one piece of wool felt and two pieces of plastic to measure 24 inches by 48 inches. Sandwich the wool felt between the two pieces of plastic. Pin the layers together around the edges with the straight pins.
Draw a 6-inch grid on one piece of plastic, using the yardstick and felt-tipped marker. Sew through all marker lines with the sewing machine, connecting all three layers.
Cut through the plastic 1/4 inch below each horizontal sewing line to create individual shoe pockets.
Cut three 4-inch sections of elastic and hand sew them to the top edge of the plastic shoe organiser. Wrap the elastic around the wooden hanger rang and sew the ends of elastic in place.
Insert individual shoes in the plastic pockets, which will stretch slightly to accommodate the shoes.
