Most computer speakers connect to the 3.5mm line-out port on your computer. However, if there is already something running off of the line-out connection and you still want to hook up a pair of speakers, you can convert the 3.5mm connection cable on the speakers to a USB port. Doing so allows you to play audio from your computer through the USB connection.

Skill level:

Things you need

  1. 1

Plug the 3.5mm cable running out of the rear of the computer speakers into the 3.5mm jack on the 3.5mm to USB connector.

  2. 2

Insert the USB connection on the adaptor into one of the USB ports on your computer.

  3. 3

Insert the driver installation CD into the disc drive of the computer. The drivers are required so your computer can understand 3.5mm audio equipment running in through the USB connection.

  4. 4

Accept the license agreement once given, then follow the remainder of the prompts to install the driver onto your computer.
