The Hewlett Packard LaserJet 4250 printer was released in late 2004 and is capable of printing on a variety of paper types including standard white printer paper, glossy paper and transparencies. Although switching the paper type simply requires manually changing out the paper in the paper tray, you must also adjust your printer's configuration settings in order to properly print according to the paper type. The 4250 printer's settings can be adjusted in the printer control panel on your computer.

Pull down the tray cover labelled "Tray 1," and gently pull the tray extension out.
Place the paper underneath the tray's tabs with the front side of the paper facing up, and adjust the paper size guide by pushing or pulling the guides until they fit snuggly around the paper. According to the official HP 4250 manual, do not push the guides against the paper until it bends, as this can cause a paper jam.
Pull the "Tray 2" tray out and place additional paper into the tray. This tray is an additional tray that can be used to store extra paper, and will be automatically used if Tray 1 runs out of paper during the printing process. Turn the knob located on the right side of the tray to adjust the size guide. According to the HP 4250 manual, the printer supports letter, A4, legal, executive, A5 and JIS B5 paper sizes.
Push Tray 2 in to load the paper, and push the power switch located on the back of the printer. Open the document you wish to print, and select "File" at the top of the program window. Click "Print" from the pull-down menu, and click the "Properties" or "Setup" button to view the printer properties.
Select the "Paper Type" tab, and click the drop-down menu to choose from the list of available types. Click the paper type you wish to use, click "OK" to save the settings, and click "Print" to begin printing.
