Making a ring bed canopy is one way to create a fairy tale look for a little girl’s room or a romantic look for an adult bedroom. The addition of sheer tulle fabric in pink or lavender suspended from a ring above the bed makes a little girl feel like a princess. A sheer gauzy fabric choice, on the other hand, turns the bed into a tropical secluded hideaway. Whatever your decorative intent, creating a ring bed canopy easily achieves your purpose.
Secure a metal hook into a ceiling beam above the bed. Position it toward the head of the bed so that the draping fabric can be situated behind the headboard if needed.
Cut sheer fabric into three panels that are 108 inches in length. Choose sheer, lightweight fabric that suits the look you are trying to achieve.
Fold the lower edge of one panel of the fabric to form a hem. Turn the fabric under half an inch to the wrong side, and then fold again. Press in place. Stitch the hem with a sewing machine. Repeat with each of the panels.
Turn under the top edge of each panel of fabric half an inch. Press. Fold under half an inch again. Stitch a hem around each panel.
Drape two inches of each fabric panel over the top of the inner embroidery hoop. Adjust the fabric around three sides of the ring to the desired fullness. Pin them in position.
Cut ribbon into four 20-inch pieces. Tie one end of each ribbon securely to the outer embroidery hoop ring so that the long ends extend above the hoop. Position the ribbons equally around the hoop. Tie the loose ends of opposite ribbons together to form a knot. Adjust the ribbons so that the lengths are even.
Open the outside ring of the embroidery hoop by loosening the screw adjuster. Place the hoop over the inner fabric ring with the ribbons extending from the top of the circle. Tighten the screw on the outer ring to secure the fabric panels. Remove the safety pins.
Glue decorative trim around the outer ring with craft glue. Allow it to dry.
Hang the tied ribbons on the metal hook in the ceiling. Face the open side of the canopy toward the end of the bed. Adjust panels to form a drape around the head of the bed. Position the back panel loosely behind the headboard. Drape additional panels around the sides of the head of the bed.
Other adornments, such as flowers or sequins, can be glued to the fabric if desired.
