How to Repair a Dead SATA Hard Drive

A SATA hard drive is drive that uses the SATA interface standard when sending information to and from the system memory on the computer. Repairing a dead SATA drive might seem impossible, but you owe it to yourself to at least attempt a drive repair before giving up and purchasing a new hard drive. Accomplish this with the disk repair tools in your computer's operating system.

    Click the "Start" menu.

    Type "cmd" in the "Search" box and press "Enter."

    Type "chkdsk x: /r", substituting "x" for the letter of the supposedly dead SATA drive.

  4. 4

    Press "Enter" to run the drive diagnostic and repair utility. The computer will attempt to repair and fix the dead areas on your SATA drive.
