How to Train Your Dog to Heel

Train Your Dog to Heel
Train Your Dog to Heel

Your dog is your best friend. He comforts you when you are sad and is your playmate when you're happy. But you have responsibilities to your dog, including teaching him basic obedience. Using a leash and jerking your dog's neck is not necessary to train him to heel. Tasty treats and an abundance of praise will usually do the trick.

on 18/10/2009 it would also be wise to teach the dog or puppy to sit when you stop walking but to stand up when a stranger approaches and also to sit and stay when you go into a building if training them to walk without a leash in the city.

on 23/07/2009 I have three dogs who are very sweet, but two are poorly leash-trained. My fault, not the dogs! I'll have to try this technique.

on 15/06/2009 nice article, but I have a small mixed breed, I would not want her to become overweight. usually, I say nice things to her and occassionally will give her a treat.
