Making a cardboard basket is a project in which the whole family can participate. Children can even make their own baskets, which can be used to store or carry small items.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- One cardboard tissue box
- Precision knife
- Construction paper: 1 sheet (any colour)
- Spray paint (any colour)
- Multipurpose glue
Draw a design for your basket on each side of a cubed cardboard tissue box. The design can be whatever you want, but make sure that it touches all the corners of the box. An example for a design might be a star.
Cut out the top of the tissue box using a precision knife.
Cut out the outline of the design on the sides of the tissue box, but do not to cut off the corners of the box. For example, if your design is a star, then leave the corners of the box where the star intersects with the corner. You should now have a basketlike structure with the design that you created as the shape of the sides of the basket.
Cut a strip of construction paper so that it measures 11 inches in length and 1 inch in width.
Spray paint the basket with desired colours and let the basket sit for one hour to let the paint dry. Do not touch the box until the paint is dry.
Attach the strip of construction paper to the basket. The strip of construction paper will be the handle. Apply multipurpose glue to the ends of the strip, and then attach the ends to the inside of the basket, on opposite sides of the basket. Leave the glue to dry for at least 20 minutes.
