Along with vampires, werewolves and ghosts, zombies are among the scariest staples of Halloween. Zombie costumes are fun to make because you can put your own personality into the costume. Before you choose the clothes and wig for your zombie, think about who she was before her unfortunate demise. Before you design her scars and wounds, think about how she met that demise. You can even give her a name and decide what she did for a living.

Things you need
- Old black dress
- Black tights
- Black shoes
- Black leotard
- 1 cup bleach
- Green fabric paint
- Baby powder
- Wire brush
- Wig (optional)
- White, dark grey and red face paint
- Liquid latex
- Tissue paper
Wet your black dress and tights down and roll them in some dirt outside. Lay them out and splash both items lightly with 1 cup of bleach. Add a rip or two to the tights, and rip out part of the hemline of the dress. Hang the dress and tights to let them dry.
Brush the costume lightly with green fabric paint to give it a mouldy look, then dust the costume with baby powder as well.
Brush the shoes with the wire brush and dust them with baby powder.
Tease your hair or wig by grabbing a lock at a time and combing upward. Spray unevenly with hairspray and dust with baby powder.
Add a thin layer of latex to your entire face and neck. Let it dry.
Tear a bit of the dry latex by peeling it outward and letting it hang to form a wound. If you want a thicker scar, stick bits of tissue paper around the scar or wound with latex. Cover with another layer of latex and let it dry.
Put a pale layer of white face paint over your entire face and neck. Paint the insides of the scars and wounds with a little red face paint, and use dark grey face paint around your eyes and the hollows of your cheeks.
