Crafts don’t have to be made from fabric or paper, glue and glitter. Crafts can also be made from edible items. Making a log cabin out of pretzels is an easy craft for young children. Making the log cabin is not only fun, it can also be a great occasion to teach children about history. Points to talk about include early American settler’s lives and Abraham Lincoln. An edible log cabin is a great craft to make during Thanksgiving or President’s Day.

Things you need
- Small paper milk carton
- Peanut butter
- Butter knife
- Pretzel rods or sticks
- Chocolate-covered chewy caramel candy piece (round shape)
Cut along the top of the milk carton to create two flaps. Wash out the milk carton. The best milk cartons to use are the ones served in elementary schools. You can purchase these milk cartons at your local grocery store. If you cannot find a small milk carton, an empty half and half or heavy whipping cream carton will work as well.
Press the two flaps together to make a triangle and tape them together. This will be the roof of your log cabin.
Dip your butter knife into your peanut butter. Spread the peanut butter over the entire milk carton. If someone in your family has peanut butter allergies, melt chocolate and spread it over your milk carton instead. Spray cheese will also work.
Add your pretzels to the carton. Lay them horizontally, one above the other. Continue until you cover all sides, except for the bottom. Place a pretzel vertically on each edge of the milk carton.
Spread peanut butter on the back of your cracker and stick it to one of the larger sides of the milk carton. Place the cracker in the middle as this will be your door. Depending on what crackers you use, you may need to make them smaller. You can make windows in the same way.
Spread peanut butter on to the bottom of your Rolo. Stick on the roof to complete your pretzel log cabin.
