The Brother DCP-110C is a combined digital copier and printer. As with all such equipment, problems can occur. Some problems may have simple solutions, and it is always worth troubleshooting the device yourself before making a potentially expensive service call. The DCP-110C has an error message display that may help you identify and fix any problems that do occur.

  1. 1

Check the LCD screen on the unit's control panel to identify the problem. Follow the step or steps below that relate to the error message.

  2. 2

Ensure that the scanner lid is fully closed.

  3. 3

Turn off the unit and allow it to cool down.

  4. 4

Press the "Stop/Exit" button. Try printing the document again.

  5. 5

Replace the ink cartridge if the LCD indicates it is empty or near empty. Lift the scanner lid until it locks into position. Pull the cartridge hook towards you and remove the old cartridge. Ensure the new cartridge is the correct colour. Remove the cover from the cartridge then push it into the empty slot until it clicks into place. Snap the cartridge hook into position and close the scanner lid. Press the "Yes" button when the LCD asks if you have replaced the cartridge.

  6. 6

Re-insert the media card. If the unit still reports a media card error, try another media card.

  7. 7

Make sure there is paper in the paper feed.

  8. 8

Remove any jammed paper. Remove the paper tray and the paper jam cover if necessary to allow access and gently pull the paper until the jam is removed.

  1. 1

Remove the cable connecting the unit to your PC. Re-insert the cable, making sure that it is firmly connected.

  2. 2

Clean the print head. Press the "Ink" button, then press the up or down arrow buttons until "Cleaning" is highlighted. Press the "Set" button, then use the up or down arrows to select "All". Press the "Set" button again.

  3. 3

Try the "Enhanced Normal Printing" mode. Click on the printer icon on your PC. Click on the "Basic" tab then click "Settings" and check "Enhanced Normal Printing."

  4. 4

Make sure the paper side guides match the width of the paper. If there is space between the paper and the guides, slide the guides closer together. If there is not enough space and the paper is bunched or arched, slide the guides farther apart.

  5. 5

Insert the CD-ROM that came with the software. Select "Repair MFL-Pro Suite" from the menu. This will repair and, if necessary, reinstall the software.

Tips and warnings
