How to Make Genie Bottles

Updated February 21, 2017

Instead of throwing away used glass or plastic bottles, you can teach your children how to reuse them by transforming them into whimsical genie bottles. Your children can use their genie bottles during pretend play, as a decoration for their Halloween costume or to decorate their rooms. In order to successfully create a genie bottle out of used bottles, it is helpful to follow a few basic guidelines to ensure that the bottles will appear colourful and magical.

Cover the outside of a plastic or glass bottle with craft glue.

Drape coloured tissue paper over the bottle. Trim off any excess. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Add colour to the bottle using acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Apply dollops of craft glue around the middle of the bottle.

Press plastic jewels onto the dollops of glue. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Apply dollops of craft glue around the neck of the bottle.

Press sequins onto the glue. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Squeeze glitter glue around the bottle in swirling or looping patterns. Allow the glitter glue to dry completely before using the bottle for play or adding more decorations.
