How to Make a Full Screen Game's Screen Smaller

Many computer games are set by default to open in full-screen mode. In this mode, the game takes over your entire screen, blocking out your Windows task bar. If you prefer to multitask while you play, windowed mode may be a better choice. Windowed mode places the game in a standard window, allowing you to control the size using the minimise and maximise buttons in the upper right corner of the screen.

Instructions

  1. 1

Launch the game and open the Settings menu. Select the graphics options--depending on the game, this may be labelled "Video Options."

  2. 2

Select the option to play the game in windowed mode. Alternately, you may need to deselect the "full screen" option.

  3. 3

Click "Save" or "OK" to save your changes and exit the menu. The game should automatically resize itself into windowed mode. If it doesn't, exit and restart the game.

Tips and warnings

  • If your game doesn't have an option for windowed mode, try pressing "F11" or "Alt" and "Enter" to initiate it.
  • This process may not work for every game.
