Quicken and QuickBooks use different formats for storing their financial transaction data. Older versions of Quicken use QIF, or Quicken Interchange Format, files. Intuit QuickBooks uses IIF, or Intuit Interchange Format. If you’re switching from an older version of Quicken to QuickBooks, you’ll need to convert your QIF files to IIF format. QuickBooks discontinued its built-in QIF importing function in 2005, according to Intuit.com. Conversion requires a third-party utility.
