You can make your own vases from birch bark. Birch bark is a thin, white bark with the consistency of paper. The fact that the bark is so thin means it is flexible enough to use in craft projects. You can wrap it around a tall tin can to create a natural looking vase to match your decor. You could also use the vases as centrepieces at weddings or anniversaries.

  1. 1

Measure the length and height of your tin can. Add 2 inches so that you can overlap the bark.

  2. 2

Cut a piece of birch bark with these dimensions with strong shears. If the birch bark does not feel flexible, you can soak it in water for an hour to make it easier to bend.

  3. 3

Overlap the bark and glue it around the tin can with plenty of hot glue to keep it in place.

  4. 4

Press the birch bark against the tin can tightly until the glue dries. You could also tie a piece of twine tightly around the bark to hold it in place until it dries instead of holding it.

  5. 5

Fill the vase with flowers. If you are adding real flowers, make sure that you clean the inside of the can thoroughly.
