The Rolex Datejust watch comes in both men's and ladies' styles and displays the current date on the face. Because of the popularity and elite reputation of Rolex watches, there are many fake watches that are passed off as authentic. The seller counts on the fact that uniformed consumers cannot tell the difference between a real and fake Rolex watch. Here are several things to look for so that you can tell if a Rolex Datejust watch is real or fake.

  1. 1

Look closely at the second hand on the face of the Datejust watch and see if it stops and starts as it ticks off the seconds. This is the sign of a fake Rolex, since the second hand on authentic Rolex watches sweeps in a continuous fluid motion.

  2. 2

Examine the surface of the clear face covering to see if there are any scratches at all which indicates the Rolex Datejust is a fake. True Rolex watches have covers made of sapphire crystals, which do not scratch.

  3. 3

Examine the date window located on the right side of the Rolex Datejust face. On real Rolex watches, the date is magnified so that is completely fills up the window. If you can still see significant white space around the numbers, then the watch is fake.

  4. 4

Turn the watch over and look at the back of the watch. It should be solid metal and smooth with no logo or engravings at all. If the back is clear, the watch is fake. Some fake sellers will try to tell you the clear back is to view the intricate mechanism but Rolex has never sold such a watch to the public.

  5. 5

Turn the watch band sideways and look at where the links connect to each other. If the links are connected with screws, which is evident by the top of the screw, it is a real Rolex. If the link contains a pin, which has a smooth top, the watch is fake.
