A computer without a wireless modem can still receive a wireless internet connection with the help of a dongle. Wireless dongles are about the size of a pack of gum and plug directly into the computer. They receive any wireless internet signal within range and allow your computer to gain access. Wireless dongles work on desktops or laptops on either Windows or Mac operating systems.

Instructions

  1. 1

Choose a USB port on your computer. It must be a USB 2.0 port; the 1.0 may not be able to receive information from the dangle. As long as the USB port is connected directly to the hard drive, it is likely a 2.0.

  2. 2

Plug the wireless dongle into the USB port. It should connect to the internet automatically.

  3. 3

Open your Web browser to see if the dongle connected. If it didn't connect, open your computer's internet settings from the taskbar and choose an available connection.
