How to Make Your Own Toothpaste Tube Squeezer
Get the last bit out. (toothpaste image by Zbigniew Nowak from

Getting the most out of a tube of toothpaste requires being able to skilfully squeeze those last remnants of paste from a wrinkly, mostly empty tube. Toothpaste tube squeezers help gather those remnants by compressing the tube from the bottom to the top. As simple a device as a tube squeezer is, you can make your own from household items, including---appropriately---the handles of old toothbrushes.

  1. 1

Clean the toothbrushes; rinse away any residual toothpaste or other grime.

  2. 2

Cut off the heads of the toothbrushes using the power saw (you can use almost any power saw for this, or an oscillating power tool with a cutting blade). Discard the heads.

  3. 3

Grind the plastic where you made the cuts. Remove the sharp edges left from the cutting, creating a rounded end in its place.

  4. 4

Line up the two toothbrush handles so that they're parallel to one another. Turn them so that their flattest edges are facing one another for best results.

  5. 5

Attach the toothbrush handles. Wrap one rubber band tightly around each end of the two handles, wrapping them around until they join the two handles tightly together.

  6. 6

Feed the end of the toothpaste tube between the two handles and between the two rubber bands. Slide the rubber bands in as close as possible to hold the toothpaste tube.

  7. 7

Push the toothbrush handles up the toothpaste tube to push the last remnants of paste closer to the opening of the tube.
