Dark brown spots on your face or body are known as hyperpigmentation, which is caused by the overproduction of melanin that creates small deposits in your skin. You may try various treatments to remove the dark pigmentation.
Obtain bleaching cream containing the active ingredient hydroquinone from a doctor's prescription or over the counter (which will contain a smaller percentage). Consult your doctor about laser therapy. According the to American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, laser treatments may remove the dark pigmentation using a q-switched ruby laser. The laser burns a thin layer of skin from the surface to remove the dark spot. This treatment may cause inflammation after the procedure, but should subside within three days, according to Yarosh.
Apply a cold compress to your face to reduce redness and swelling after treatment. Laser therapy should be not be used if you have darker skin, as it can worsen the dark pigmentation.
Sleep with at least two pillows to keep your head elevated for one to two weeks after your treatment, according to the Facial Plastic Surgery. Laser treatment should be a last resort for removing dark pigmentation, as some lasers may cause scarring.
Shred one carrot into a small mixing bowl, and mix with lemon juice. According to Narine Nikogosian, author of "Return to Beauty," lemon juice is a natural skin bleaching agent, while carrots protect your skin from the sun.
Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and apply it to the dark pigmentation.
Allow the mask to set on your skin for 20 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.
Apply a thin layer of moisturiser with SPF 15 onto your face to protect your skin after treatment.
