  1. 1

Cut out two pieces of satin measuring 6 inches by 9 inches. Lay the two pieces of satin on top of each other with the shiny sides touching. Pin around the rectangles on both long sides and one of the short sides. Begin sewing on one long side, starting 3 inches down from the unpinned top. Stitch toward the bottom, across the bottom side and up the second long side to a point 3 inches below the top again. This will create a bag with two flaps at the top opening.

  2. 2

Fold the sides of each flap back 1/2 inch so the flap hems are at the same point as the side seaming on the bag. Pin and sew these sides, using a 1/4 inch seam.

  3. 3

Fold down the tops of both flaps 1/4 inch and pin securely. Sew these folded edges down, stitching near the fold. Fold both flap ends down again so the top of the flap meets the side seam and sew, stitching on top of the first seam line.

  4. 4

Turn the bag right-side out, poking into the corners to create sharp points. Lay the bag on the table in front of you. Place a pin at each side of the bag 1-inch above where the flaps were sewn down. Stitch across each flap at this point, creating a casing in each flap for the cord.

  5. 5

Cut a piece of decorative satin cord 18 inches long. Stick a large safety pin through one end of this cord. Use the closed safety pin to guide the satin cord through one casing and then back through the other one, coming out the other side on the same bag end.

  6. 6

Tie both ends of the cord together into a neat knot. Knot a decorative bead or metal charm onto the end of the cord. Pull the cord to close the top of the bag.
