Hoover carpet cleaners use hot water and shampoo to clean carpets. The shampoo is dispensed onto the carpet and agitated with a brush, then the soiled mixture is sucked up. When the dirty water container is full it needs to be emptied. Problems with Hoover carpet cleaners are often due to a lack of suction, tanks that need to be emptied or parts not being properly latched or locked into place.
Empty the recovery (dirty water) tank if you experience low or no suction. A shut-off mechanism will close the suction system down when it is full. Make sure that the cap is secure on the tank when you replace it. Also, check that the tool door is closed, as a poor seal in this area can also affect suction.
Refill the solution tank if the cleaning product won’t dispense. Again, make sure it snaps into place when you reattach the tank. A proper seal is crucial to providing optimum suction performance.
Remove the hose and look for a blockage if there is low suction in the hose when you are using a tool rather than the main agitator brush. Disconnect the hose and look through it, then use a garden hose or broom handle to poke the obstruction clear.
Check that the brush is switched on if the brushes won’t rotate. There is usually a speed selector switch that controls this function.
Soak the Hoover carpet cleaner’s detergent container cap if detergent won’t dispense. Turn the valve cap counter-clockwise and remove it, then soak the valve cap in warm water for at least 15 minutes. When finished, wipe the cap dry and reattach it.
