How to Decorate a Living Room With a Leather Sofa & Chairs

Updated February 21, 2017

If your living room features a leather sofa and chair set, make the most of it. Leather furniture is a timeless and classy addition to your home. Accent neutral-hued furniture with colourful decor pieces for a vibrant look. Arrange the sofa and chair set to maximise living room space and provide plenty of seating options for guests. Set up the pieces in a way that is conducive to intimate conversations and television watching.

Choose a leather sofa and chair set according to your living room's decor style. Pick a plush cream-coloured set to enhance a space with earth-hued decor. Go with a black set if the room has a sleek, modern style. Select a brown leather couch and chair set if you prefer a rustic look.

Arrange the leather furniture. Display the couch and chairs around a large ornate Oriental rug to set it off. Place the couch and coffee table in the centre of the living room and use the chairs to fill in empty corners. Set the couch under a picture window and create a reading nook with a chair and standing lamp.

Enhance the leather furniture with warm textiles. Place rust orange or golden yellow pillows on a cream-coloured couch to add a pop of rich colour. Decorate a brown couch with white decorative pillows featuring autumn leaf or bird designs. Jazz up a sophisticated black sofa with red or turquoise pillows. Drape a matching throw blanket over the top of the couch. Accent each chair with a coordinating pillow.

Include convenient and decorative tables in the furniture layout. Accent light-coloured leather furniture with a dark mahogany or cherry wood side and coffee table set. Choose a glass-topped coffee table featuring shiny chrome legs if you have black furniture. Turn an antique wood chest into an eye-catching coffee table to complement a vintage brown leather couch and chair set.

Add comfort with ottomans. Rest weary feet on fabric-covered or coordinating leather ottomans. Choose an ottoman featuring black and white fabric to break up the black leather furniture. Enhance a cream-coloured furniture set with a cream and muted orange fabric-covered ottoman.
